In the UK, someone is diagnosed with cancer every 2 minutes. Are you prepared if the worst does happen?
Being young and fit is not necessarily a pre-requisite for good health. Government statistics suggest that you are five times more likely to develop a critical illness than you are to die before you reach 65.
Due to the way that contractors work, and the stress levels that this method of employment entails, you may well be more vulnerable to illnesses such as cancer, stroke or heart attack. Whilst we all do our bit to stay healthy, sometimes no matter how much we try, the inevitable still happens.
When buying a home, one of the first things you are advised to do is take out life insurance. Yet very few people consider critical illness protection, even though you have a significantly greater chance of needing it.
Imagine the stress you’d endure not only begin housebound and unable to work, but having to rely on your family and loved ones to give up their jobs to look after you? For contractors and freelancers, this is even more of a burden as their own income would have dried up the very minute they stopped working.
Act now by contacting us today for a FREE consultation. We have arranged hundreds of critical illness policies to pay out a lump sum or provide financial support to pay for bills and treatment costs. Here’s what some of our previous customers have had to say:
“Thanks for offering me the gift of piece of mind!” Sandra Allen
“Your service is really easy to use. I was expecting something rather more difficult!” Christopher Gordon
“What a simple service, your site offers great support to the freelancing community.” Jason Brown
There are more than 200 types of cancer, and 1 in 3 people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime.
Critical illness cover has been designed to do just this. The plan will protect you and your family financially, so that you can spend your time getting better.
The beauty of this type of policy is that a lump sum is actually paid out when diagnosis has been made. This means that you’ll be able to pay bills, pay for treatment or even take a much needed holiday while you recover. (Unlike a life insurance plan which deals more with the prospect of not leaving the family in debt and paying a mortgage).
Critical illness cover benefits:
- The cover gives you money when you are diagnosed and not when you die. This way, it helps you through the recovery process.
- It helps to maintain your independence by giving you money towards changes in your home and your car if your mobility is affected.
What to look for in a good policy:
There are several things to consider when choosing a critical illness policy. Specifically these include:
- Making sure that the cost of premiums remain affordable. It is especially important that you are able to contribute to the policy as you get older, since this is the time when you are more likely to fall ill.
- Check that the provider is reputable and that you have some assurance that they will pay out on claims. The terms for a life insurance policy are pretty black and white – the person is either alive or dead and thus the provider must pay. Critical illness cover is a little different and some providers will want to dispute terms and definitions by relying on complex medical definitions to decide who does and does not get a payout.
How to get the coverage to work for you:
Like any insurance plan, critical illness cover can be put to work in several ways. It is therefore important to ensure that you take out a policy that works best for you.
- The coverage can be used with PHI (Private Health Insurance). Most contractors like to take out both together, as PHI guarantees a monthly income if you are too ill to work and will keep paying until you are well enough to return.
- It can be used like a Life plan. You are able to stipulate if the policy is to cover you until a certain term, like until retirement, or if you want to be covered for life.
- You also get the option of Decreasing Term Assurance, where the cover decreases over an amount of time, or Level Term Assurance, where coverage stays the same.
Essentially, critical illness cover is used to manage your financial risks and protect you and your family against the eventuality of something going wrong. If you have any specific queries about critical illness cover, or perhaps you’d like to know how you can combine this policy with other related products, please get in contact and we’ll be happy to help.
